The Government’s seasonal workers pilot opened in March, to assess how effective the UK’s immigration system is in tackling seasonal job shortages.
The service comes after the Home Office updated the Code of Practice on Preventing Illegal Working at the start of the year. It is important to note that the Employer Checking Service is not applicable to all cases. Employers can use the service for those with immigration status that can be checked online; however, it is not yet available for checks against UK nationals and those with immigration status whose details are not online.
Employers should ensure that their organisation is compliant with the Code of Practice, as those in breach of this duty could potentially face fines of up to £20,000 per illegal worker.
